Management and Franchise

The Company's management and franchise segment manages hotels and licenses its brands to franchisees. The Company's hotel management services consist of operating hotels under management agreements for the benefit of third-parties either owning or leasing the hotels and the associated personal property. As of December 31, 2016, the Company managed 559 hotels with 165,320 rooms. The Company franchises its brand names, trade and service marks and operating systems to hotel owners under franchise agreements. As of December 31, 2016, the Company franchised 4,175 hotels with 573,404 rooms.
