Amphenol Corporation (Amphenol), incorporated on December 19, 1986, is a designer, manufacturer and marketer of electrical, electronic and fiber optic connectors, interconnect systems, antennas, sensors and sensor- based products, and coaxial and specialty cable. The Company operates through two segments, which include Interconnect Products and Assemblies, and Cable Products and Solutions.
The primary end markets for the Company's products are information technology and communication devices and systems for the converging technologies of voice, video and data communications; a range of industrial applications and traditional and hybrid electrical automotive applications, and commercial aerospace and military applications. The Company designs, manufactures and assembles its products at facilities in the Americas, Europe, Asia, Australia and Africa. It sells its products through its own global sales force, independent representatives and a global network of electronics distributors. As of December 31, 2016, the Company's products were sold to a range of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in approximately 70 countries throughout the world. Amphenol also sells certain products to Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS) companies, to original design manufacturing (ODM) companies and to communication network operators.
The Company sells its products to customers in a diversified set of end markets, including automotive, broadband communications, commercial aerospace, industrial, information technology and data communications, military, mobile devices and mobile networks. Amphenol is a supplier of interconnect systems and sensors for an array of automotive applications. In addition, Amphenol has an technology solution for hybrid-electric vehicles. Its primary end applications of automotive market include engine management and control; exhaust monitoring and cleaning; hybrid-electric vehicles; infotainment and communications; lighting; safety and security systems, and telematics systems. Amphenol offers broadband communication products for the cable, satellite and telecommunications video and data networks. The Company offers a range of products to service the broadband market, from customer premises cables and interconnect devices to distribution cable and fiber optic components, as well as interconnect products integrated into headend equipment. The primary end applications of broadband communications market includes cable modems; cable, satellite and telecommunications networks; Internet hardware; network switching equipment; satellite interface devices, and set top boxes. The Company is a provider of interconnect systems and components to the commercial aerospace market. In addition to connector and assembly products, the Company also provides cable management products. Its primary end applications of commercial aerospace market include aircraft and airframe power distribution; avionics; controls and instrumentation; engines; in-flight entertainment; lighting and control systems, and wire bundling and cable management.
Amphenol's core capabilities include application-specific industrial interconnect solutions utilizing integrated assemblies, including with both cable and printed circuits, as well as interconnects requiring engineering and system integration. The primary end applications of industrial market include alternative and traditional energy generation; batteries and hybrid drive systems; factory and machine tool automation; geophysical; heavy equipment; instrumentation; Internet of things; light emitting diode (LED) lighting; marine; medical equipment; power distribution, and rail mass transit.
The Company is a global provider of interconnect solutions to designers and manufacturers of Internet-enabling systems. Amphenol is engaged in the design, manufacture and supply of interconnect systems and antennas for a range of military applications. Amphenol provides military specification connectors, customized board level interconnects, flexible to rigid printed circuit boards, backplane systems and integrated assemblies. The primary end applications of military market include avionics; communications; engines; ground vehicles and tanks; homeland security; naval; ordnance and missile systems; radar systems; rotorcraft; satellite and space programs, and unmanned aerial vehicles. Amphenol designs and manufactures a range of interconnect products, antennas and electromechanical components found in an array of mobile computing devices. Amphenol is a global interconnect solution provider to the mobile networks market. The Company's products are used in a range of wireless communications standards, including third generation (3G), 3.5G, fourth generation (4G), long term evolution (LTE), time-division long-term evolution (TD-LTE) and other future Internet protocol (IP)-based solutions. In addition, the Company works with service providers throughout the world to offer an array of antennas and installation-related site solution interconnect products. The primary end applications of mobile devices market include mobile and smart phones, including accessories; mobile computing devices, including laptops, tablets, ultrabooks and e-readers, wearable devices and production-related products. The primary end applications for mobile networks include cellular base stations; cell site antenna systems; combiners, filters and amplifiers; core network controllers; mobile switches; radio links, and wireless routers.
Interconnect Products and Assemblies
The Company's Interconnect Product and Assemblies segment primarily is engaged in designing, manufacturing and marketing a range of connector and connector systems, value-add products, and other products, including antennas and sensors, used in a range of applications in various set of end markets. Interconnect products include connectors, which when attached to an electrical, electronic or fiber optic cable, a printed circuit board or other device, facilitate transmission of power or signal. Its connector and connector systems include fiber optic interconnect products, harsh interconnect products, high speed interconnect products, power interconnect products, bus bars and distribution systems, radio frequency (RF) interconnect products and antennas, and other connectors. Value-add systems generally consist of a system of cable, circuits or printed circuit boards and connectors for linking electronic equipment. The Company's value-add products consist of backplane interconnect systems, cable assemblies and harnesses, and cable management products. Its other products include antennas, flexible and rigid printed circuit boards, hinges, molded parts, sensors and sensor-based products, switches, and production-related products.
Cable Products and Solutions
The Company's Cable Products and Solutions segment primarily engages in designing, manufacturing and marketing cables, value-added products and components for use primarily in the broadband communications and information technology markets, as well as certain applications in other markets. Its cables include coaxial cable, power cable and specialty cable; value-add products include cable assemblies, and components include combiner/splitter products, connector and connector systems, and fiber optic components.
The Company competes with TE Connectivity, Molex, Yazaki, Foxconn, Sensata, JST, Delphi, Hirose, JAE, Commscope and Belden.
