About International Paper Co.
International Paper Company, incorporated on June 23, 1941, is a paper and packaging company with primary markets and manufacturing operations in North America, Europe, Latin America, Russia, Asia, Africa and the Middle East. The Company's segments include Industrial Packaging, Global Cellulose Fibers, Printing Papers and Consumer Packaging. As of December 31, 2016, the Company operated 29 pulp, paper and packaging mills, 170 converting and packaging plants, 16 recycling plants and three bag facilities in the United States. As of December 31, 2016, the production facilities in Canada, Europe, Asia, Africa, India, Latin America included 17 pulp, paper and packaging mills, 68 converting and packaging plants, and two recycling plants. As of December 31, 2016, the Company operated a printing and packaging products distribution business principally through 12 branches in Asia. The Company sells packaging products, paper products and other products directly to end users and converters, as well as through agents, resellers and paper distributors.
Industrial Packaging
The Company is a manufacturer of containerboard in the United States. The Company's products include linerboard, medium, whitetop, recycled linerboard, recycled medium and saturating kraft. As of December 31, 2016, approximately 80% of its production is converted domestically into corrugated boxes and other packaging by its 166 United States container plants. Additionally, as of December 31, 2016, it recycled approximately one million tons of old corrugated containers (OCC) and mixed and white paper through its 18 recycling plants. In Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), its operations included two recycled fiber containerboard mills in Morocco and Turkey and 26 container plants in France, Italy, Spain, Morocco and Turkey, as of December 31, 2016. In Brazil, its operations included three containerboard mills and four box plants, as of December 31, 2016. Its container plants are supported by regional design centers, which offer total packaging solutions and supply chain initiatives.
Global Cellulose Fibers
The Company's cellulose fibers product portfolio includes fluff, market and specialty pulps. Its fluff pulp is used to make absorbent hygiene products like baby diapers, feminine care, adult incontinence and other non-woven products, and its market pulp is used for tissue and paper products. The Company is focused on investing in exploring uses for its products, such as specialty pulps, which are used for non-absorbent end uses including textiles, filtration, construction material, paints and coatings, reinforced plastics and more. Its products are made in the United States, Canada, France, Poland, and Russia and are sold around the world.
Printing Papers
The Company is a producer of printing and writing papers. The products in Printing Papers segment include uncoated papers. Its uncoated papers engage in the business of producing papers for use in copiers, desktop and laser printers, and digital imaging. The end use applications of its products include advertising and promotional materials, such as brochures, pamphlets, greeting cards, books, annual reports and direct mail. Its uncoated papers also produce a range of grades that are converted by its customers into envelopes, tablets, business forms and file folders. The Company's uncoated papers are sold under private label and International Paper brand names that include Hammermill, Springhill, Williamsburg, Postmark, Accent, Great White, Chamex, Ballet, Rey, Pol, and Svetocopy. The mills producing uncoated papers are located in the United States, France, Poland, Russia, Brazil and India. As of December 31, 2016, the mills had uncoated paper production capacity of approximately four million tons annually.
Consumer Packaging
The Company is a producer of solid bleached sulfate board. The Company's coated paperboard business produces coated paperboard for a range of packaging and foodservice end uses. Its Everest, Fortress, and Starcote brands are used in packaging applications for everyday products such as food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and tobacco products.
