Cabot Oil & Gas Corporation, incorporated on December 14, 1989, is an independent oil and gas company engaged in the development, exploitation and exploration of oil and gas properties. The Company operates in the segment of natural gas and oil development, exploitation, exploration and production, in the continental United States. Its assets are concentrated in areas with known hydrocarbon resources, which are conducive to multi-well, repeatable drilling programs. As of December 31, 2016, the Company's exploration, development and production operations were primarily concentrated in two unconventional plays: the Marcellus Shale in northeast Pennsylvania and the Eagle Ford Shale in south Texas. The Company also has operations in various other unconventional and conventional plays throughout the continental United States.

Marcellus Shale

The Company's Marcellus Shale properties are principally located in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania. As of December 31, 2016, the Company held approximately 179,000 net acres in the dry gas window of the play. In the fiscal year ended December 31, 2016, its net production in the Marcellus Shale was 581.9 billion cubic feet (Bcfe). As of December 31, 2016, it had a total of 553.0 net wells in the Marcellus Shale. As of December 31, 2016, it had 26.2 net wells.

Eagle Ford Shale

The Company's properties in the Eagle Ford Shale are principally located in Atascosa, Frio and La Salle Counties, Texas. As of December 31, 2016, the Company held approximately 84,000 net acres in the oil window of the play. In the fiscal year ended December 31, 2016, its net crude oil/condensate/natural gas liquid (NGL) and natural gas production from the Eagle Ford Shale was 3,819 thousand barrels (Mbbl) and 2.5 billion cubic feet (Bcf). As of December 31, 2016, it had 19.0 net wells.

Other Properties

In addition to the Company's core unconventional resource plays, the Company also operates or participates in other conventional and unconventional plays throughout the continental United States. Its other conventional and unconventional plays are located in Devonian Shale, Big Lime, Weir and Berea formations in West Virginia; the Haynesville, Bossier, and James Lime formations in east Texas, and the Utica Shale in Pennsylvania. Ancillary to its exploration, development and production operations, it had operated a range of gas gathering and transmission pipeline systems, made up of approximately 3,100 miles of pipeline with interconnects to three interstate transmission systems, four local distribution companies and various end users, as of December 31, 2016. The majority of its pipeline infrastructure is located in West Virginia. As of December 31, 2016, it also had two natural gas storage fields located in West Virginia with a combined working capacity of approximately four Bcf.
