Xylem Inc., incorporated on May 4, 2011, is a water technology company. The Company designs, manufactures and services engineered solutions across a range of critical applications. The Company is an equipment and service provider for water and wastewater applications with a portfolio of products and services addressing the cycle of water, from collection, distribution and use to the return of water to the environment. The Company has three business segments: Water Infrastructure, Applied Water and Sensus. The Company's portfolio of solutions addresses customer needs across the water cycle, from the delivery and use of drinking water to the collection and treatment of wastewater to the return of water to the environment. The Company's applications in the areas of water equipment industry include transport, treatment, test, building services, industrial processing and irrigation. The Company sells its products in various countries through a distribution network consisting of direct sales force and independent channel partners.
Water Infrastructure
The Water Infrastructure segment focuses on the transportation, treatment and testing of water, offering a range of products, including water and wastewater pumps, treatment and testing equipment, and controls and systems. It is engaged in the process that collects water from a source and distributes it to users, and then returns the wastewater to the environment through various applications, such as Transport, Treatment and Test. The Transport application includes sales and rental of specialty dewatering pumps and related equipment and services, which provide the safe removal or draining of groundwater and surface water from a riverbed, construction site or mine shaft and bypass pumping for the repair of aging public utility infrastructure, as well as emergency water removal during severe weather events. The Water Infrastructure segment's products include water and wastewater pumps, filtration, disinfection and biological treatment equipment, test equipment and controls.
The Water Infrastructure segment serves the water infrastructure sector with pump systems that transport water from aquifers, lakes, rivers and seas; with filtration, ultraviolet and ozone systems that provide treatment, making the water fit to use, and pumping solutions that move the wastewater to treatment facilities where its mixers, biological treatment, monitoring and control systems provide the primary functions in the treatment process. It provides analytical instrumentation used to measure water quality, flow and level in wastewater, surface water and coastal environments. The Water Infrastructure segment's brands include Leopold, Wedeco, Sanitaire, Flygt, Godwin, WTW and YSI.

Applied Water
The Applied Water segment serves the primary uses of water and focuses on the residential, commercial, industrial and agricultural markets. The Applied Water segment's products include pumps, valves, heat exchangers, controls and dispensing equipment. The Applied Water segment encompasses the uses of water and serves a set of end markets, including residential, commercial, industrial and agricultural. Residential consumers represent the end users in the residential market, while owners and managers of properties, such as apartment buildings, retail stores, institutional buildings, restaurants, schools, hospitals and hotels, are examples of end users in the commercial market. The industrial market includes original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), exploration and production firms, and developers and managers of industrial facilities, such as electrical power generators, chemical manufacturers, machine shops, clothing manufacturers, beverage dispensing and food processing firms, and car washes. Agricultural end users include owners and operators of crop and livestock farms, aquaculture, golf courses, and other turf applications.
The Applied Water segment serves the usage applications sector with water pressure boosting systems for heating, ventilation and air conditioning and for fire protection systems to the residential and commercial building services markets. The Company's pumps, heat exchangers, valves and controls provide cooling to power plants and manufacturing facilities, as well as circulation for food and beverage processing. It also provide boosting systems for farming irrigation, pumps for dairy operations and rainwater reuse systems for small scale crop and turf irrigation. Its brands include Goulds Water Technology, Bell & Gossett, A-C Fire Pump, Standard Xchange, Lowara, Jabsco, Flojet and Flowtronex.

Sensus
The Sensus segment's products include metering, networked communications, measurement and control technologies, software and services, including cloud-based analytics, remote monitoring and data management. Sensus develops technology solutions that enable use and conservation of water and energy resources. The Sensus segment delivers communications, metering, measurement and control technologies and services that allow customers to use their distribution networks for the delivery of critical resources, such as water, electricity and natural gas. Additionally, it sells software and services, including cloud-based analytics, remote monitoring and data management, as well as lighting products and solutions. Its brands include Sensus and Smith Blair.
The Company competes with Itron, Badger Meter, Landys & Gyr, Roper and Honeywell.
