About Suntrust Banks, Inc.
SunTrust Banks, Inc., incorporated on July 24, 1984, is a provider of financial services. The Company's principal subsidiary is SunTrust Bank (the Bank). The Company's business segments include Consumer Banking and Private Wealth Management, Wholesale Banking, Mortgage Banking and Corporate Other. The Company offers a line of financial services for consumers, businesses, corporations, institutions and not-for-profit entities, both through its branches (located primarily in Florida, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and the District of Columbia), and through other national delivery channels. The Bank provides clients with a selection of full-, self- and assisted-service channels, including branch, call center, Teller Connect machines, automated teller machines (ATMs), Internet, mobile and tablet. The Company's other subsidiaries provide capital markets, mortgage banking, securities brokerage, online consumer lending, and asset and wealth management services. As of December 31, 2016, the Company had total deposits of $160 billion. As of December 31, 2016, the Company's total loans held for investment amounted to $143.3 billion.
Consumer Banking and Private Wealth Management
As of December 31, 2016, the Consumer Banking and Private Wealth Management segment consisted of three primary businesses: Consumer Banking, Consumer Lending and Private Wealth Management (PWM). Consumer Banking provides services to consumers and branch-managed small business clients through a network of traditional and in-store branches, ATMs, the Internet (www.suntrust.com), mobile banking and by telephone (1-800-SUNTRUST). Financial products and services offered to consumers and small business clients include deposits and payments, loans, brokerage and various fee-based services. Discount/online and full-service brokerage products are offered to individual clients through SunTrust Investment Services, Inc. (STIS). The Consumer Banking business also serves as an entry point for clients and provides services for other lines of business. The Consumer Lending business offers a range of lending products to consumers and small business clients via the Company's Consumer Banking and Private Wealth Management businesses, through the Internet (www.suntrust.com and www.lightstream.com), as well as through various national offices and partnerships.
The Consumer Lending business products offered include home equity lines, personal credit lines and loans, direct auto, indirect auto, student lending, credit cards and other lending products. PWM provides a range of wealth management products and professional services to both individual and institutional clients, including loans, deposits, brokerage, professional investment management and trust services to clients seeking active management of their financial resources. Institutional clients are served by the Institutional Investment Solutions business. Discount/online and full-service brokerage products are offered to individual clients through STIS. PWM also includes GenSpring Family Offices, LLC (GenSpring), which provides family office solutions to ultra-high net worth individuals and their families.
Wholesale Banking
The Wholesale Banking segment includes the operations of the Corporate and investment banking (CIB), Commercial and Business Banking, Commercial Real Estate, and Treasury and Payment Solutions businesses. CIB delivers capital markets solutions, including advisory, capital raising and financial risk management, with the goal of serving the needs of both public and private companies. Investment Banking and Corporate Banking teams within CIB serve clients across the nation, offering a suite of traditional banking and investment banking products and services to companies. Investment Banking serves select industry segments, including consumer and retail, energy, financial services, healthcare, industrials, and technology, media and communications. Corporate Banking serves clients across diversified industry sectors based on size, complexity and frequency of capital markets issuance. The Equipment Finance Group, which is included within CIB, provides lease financing solutions.
The Commercial and Business Banking business offers an array of traditional banking products, including lending, cash management and investment banking solutions via SunTrust Robinson Humphrey, Inc. (STRH) to commercial clients, not-for-profit organizations and governmental entities, as well as auto dealer financing (floor plan inventory financing). The Commercial Real Estate business provides a range of financial solutions for commercial real estate developers, owners and investors, including construction, mini-perm and permanent real estate financing, as well as financing and equity investment solutions via STRH. The Commercial Real Estate business also provides multi-family agency lending and servicing, as well as loan administration, advisory and commercial mortgage brokerage services. The Commercial Real Estate business also offers financing and equity investment solutions for community development and housing projects. The Treasury and Payment Solutions business provides its clients with services required to manage their payments and receipts, combined with the ability to manage and optimize their deposits across all aspects of their business. The Treasury and Payment Solutions business operates all electronic and paper payment types, including card, wire transfer, automated clearing house (ACH), check and cash. The Treasury and Payment Solutions business also provides clients the means to manage their accounts electronically online, both domestically and internationally.
Mortgage Banking
The Mortgage Banking segment offers residential mortgage products nationally through its retail and correspondent channels, the Internet (www.suntrust.com) and by telephone (1-800-SUNTRUST). These products are either sold in the secondary market, primarily with servicing rights retained, or held in the Company's loan portfolio. The Mortgage Banking segment also services loans for other investors, in addition to loans held in the Company's loan portfolio.
Corporate Other
The Corporate Other segment includes management of the Company's investment securities portfolio, long-term debt, end user derivative instruments, short-term liquidity and funding activities, balance sheet risk management and real estate assets. The Corporate Other segment includes the Company's functional activities, such as marketing, human resources, finance, Enterprise Risk, legal and compliance, communications, procurement, enterprise information services, corporate real estate and executive management.
