WestRock Company, incorporated on March 6, 2015, is a multinational provider of paper and packaging solutions for consumer and corrugated packaging markets. The Company also develops real estate in the Charleston, South Carolina region. The Company's segments include Corrugated Packaging, Consumer Packaging, and Land and Development. The Corrugated Packaging segment consists of its containerboard mill and corrugated packaging operations, as well as its recycling operations. The Consumer Packaging segment consists of consumer mills, folding carton, beverage, merchandising displays, and partition operations. The Land and Development segment is engaged in the development and sale of real estate primarily in Charleston, South Carolina.
Corrugated Packaging Segment
The Corrugated Packaging segment produces containerboard and high-graphics preprinted linerboard. The Company has integrated corrugated operations in North America, Brazil and India. Its Brazil operation also owns forestlands, which provide virgin fiber to its Brazilian mill. The Company operates an integrated corrugated packaging system that manufactures primarily containerboard, corrugated sheets, corrugated packaging and preprinted linerboard for sale to consumer and industrial products manufacturers and corrugated box manufacturers. It produces a range of corrugated containers designed to protect, ship, store and display products made to its customers' merchandising and distribution specifications. The Company also converts corrugated sheets into corrugated products ranging from one-color protective cartons to point-of-purchase packaging. It also provides structural and graphic design, engineering services, and custom and standard automated packaging machines, offering customers turnkey installation, automation, line integration and packaging solutions.
The Company's recycling operations procure recovered paper (also known as recycled fiber) from its converting facilities and from third parties, such as factories, warehouses, commercial printers, office complexes, grocery and retail stores, document storage facilities, paper converters and other wastepaper collectors. The Company handles a range of grades of recovered paper, including old corrugated containers, office paper, box clippings, newspaper and print shop scraps. It operates recycling facilities that collect, sort, grade and bale recovered paper. After sorting and baling, the Company transfers it to its mills for processing, or sells it principally to the United States manufacturers of paperboard or containerboard, as well as manufacturers of tissue, newsprint, roofing products and insulation, and to export markets. It also collects aluminum and plastics for resale to manufacturers of these products. The waste services business arranges recycling and waste disposal services for its customers.
Consumer Packaging Segment
The Consumer Packaging segment operates integrated virgin and recycled fiber paperboard mills, and consumer packaging converting operations, which convert items, such as folding and beverage cartons, displays, dispensing and interior partitions. The Company's integrated system of virgin and recycled mills produces paperboard for its converting operations and third parties. It internally consumes or sells coated natural kraft, bleached paperboard and coated recycled paperboard to manufacturers of folding cartons and other paperboard products, and internally consumes or sells its specialty recycled paperboard to manufacturers of solid fiber interior packaging, tubes and cores, book covers and other paperboard products. It manufactures folding and beverage cartons, temporary promotional point-of-purchase displays and solid fiber partitions. The Company's folding and beverage cartons are used to package food, paper, beverages, dairy products, tobacco, and other household consumer, commercial and industrial products primarily for retail sale. It also manufactures express mail envelopes for the overnight courier industry.
The Company manufactures and sells its solid fiber and corrugated partitions, and die-cut paperboard components principally to glass container manufacturers and producers of beer, food, wine, spirits, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, and to the automotive industry. The Company designs, manufactures and packs temporary displays for sale to consumer products companies and retailers. The Company also designs, manufactures and pre-assembles permanent displays. It provides contract packing services, such as multi-product promotional packing and product manipulation, such as multipacks and onpacks. The Company manufactures and distributes point of sale material utilizing litho, screen, and digital printing technologies. It also manufactures lithographic laminated packaging. The Company produces dispensing systems, such as pumps for fragrances, lotions, creams and soaps, flip-top and applicator closures for bath and body products and lotions, and plastic packaging for hair and skin care products.
Land and Development Segment
The Land and Development segment engages in real estate development activities in the Charleston, South Carolina region, including obtaining entitlements and establishing joint ventures, and other development-related arrangements. The Company sells real estate primarily in the Charleston, South Carolina region.
