About Barclays plc
Barclays is one of the UK's largest banks. It has a history that can be traced back 300 years. It owns the credit card business Barclaycard and has a strong investment banking arm in Barclays Capital to go with its high street retail presence.
It employs almost 150,000 people around the world. It emerged ahead of some it's major competetors in the financial crisis that arose out of the Lehman Brothers collapse, but took advantage of competitors weakness by buying a large part of the Lehmans business.

Barclays PLC announces a resumed dividend payment
Barclays PLC is a holding company and its principal sources of income are, and are expected to continue to be, distributions (in the form of dividends and interest payments) from operating subsidiaries which also hold the principal assets of the Group. As a separate legal entity, Barclays PLC relies on such distributions in order to be able to meet its obligations as they fall due (including its payment obligations with respect to its debt securities) and to create distributable reserves for payment of dividends to ordinary shareholders.
