After three up days, US stocks fell sharply on Wall Street during Tuesday, with investors nervous ahead of the euro summit and after a gauge of consumer confidence fell to a more than two-year low. The Dow fell 200 points at one point but recovered



After falling as much as 175 points, the Dow Jones regained some ground to sit 130 points lower at 11783, as 22 of its 30 components fell.

The S&P 500 shrank 15 points to 1238, with financial companies declining the most among its 10 industry groups, while the Nasdaq shed 35 points to 2663.
